Calling all Writers!

October is presenting all kinds of opportunities for young writers.  Right here in our own library, we’ve got the Library Scary Short Story contest — submit your 500-word story by October 24th to win candy and Stephen King books!

Also in our library, author Don Aker is coming to visit on October 30th.  The author of The First Stone, The Fifth Rule, and Running on Empty has great advice for aspiring writers.  See your librarian about getting a pass to this event.

Finally, the Toronto Public Library is hosting its annual Young Writers’ Conference — an excellent (and free!) chance for you to learn from other writers and workshop your own writing.  Find out more here.

Your fall reading

Check out the list of books nominated for Canada’s Giller Prize.  Categories include fiction, non-fiction, young adult.  No matter the genre, you’re guaranteed a great read.  Let me know which ones you think we should get in the library!
